USCCA's Defensive Shooting Fundamentals Program takes you beyond your concealed carry class will help you learn the skills that you need to utilize your firearm in a defensive context. The program is built around two core classes:
Level I will guide you through the steps you’ll need to take to go from just sending rounds downrange to actually training in specific, tested methods of armed self-defense. From stance to grip to physical shooting technique, Defensive Shooting Fundamentals Level 1 will help you hone the edge on your inner warrior expert. You’ll get your body working with your gun instead of against it, you’ll learn which intuitive skills work best with what your body will naturally do while under stress in a combat situation, and you’ll learn to apply this information simply and effectively – regardless of your skill level.
Level 2 guides the serious defensive shooter through the necessary skill-building drills and techniques that can make the difference between dying and living and, equally importantly, simply living and truly prevailing. This class builds on the foundation of Level I skills and begins with many of those drills, but then ramps it up with new challenges and simulations.
The DSF program is also offered in smaller "chunks" that can help spread out the required time and round count over time. If you aren't ready or have the time for the full course, be sure to look for these mini-classes.
The curriculum covers the following:
• On-range training in crucial handgun skills
• High compressed ready position
• Counter ambush training
• Balance of speed and precision
• Stance and movement
• Grip and trigger control
• Presentation from ready and holster
• Emergency and retention reloads
• Diagnosing your misses
• Defensive shooting drills
• Class is heavily geared towards semi-automatic pistols, not revolvers
Level 2 features more advanced work with the above concepts, plus the addition of:
• Strong and weak hand shooting
• Multiple Target Engagement
• Cognitive Processing
Equipment you will need for this class (Level I or II):
Minimum Class size: 4
Class Time: 6-8 Hours
For those looking for a shorter class and lower round count on ammunition, these classes can be conducted in a modular fashion/smaller chunks. Check out the scheduling page for options.
