Our Defensive Pistol Series is designed to provide you with the essential skills, knowledge, and confidence to effectively use a pistol for personal defense. Whether you're a new shooter or an experienced marksman, these hands-on, live fire courses will equip you with the most up-to-date techniques in defensive shooting, safe firearm handling, and marksmanship. With a focus on both dry fire and live fire training, you'll build solid foundations while advancing your skills through each level of the series.
Defensive Pistol I: Fundamental Skills
Defensive Pistol I is the perfect starting point for anyone who has completed a CCW class and is ready to dive deeper into defensive pistol training. This course focuses on introducing defensive marksmanship, proper pistol handling, and drawing the pistol from a holster. It is designed for both new and seasoned shooters to develop strong, effective habits when it comes to firearm safety and shooting fundamentals.
You will gain hands-on experience and practice in:
- Safe Firearm Handling: Building confidence in handling your pistol safely.
- Gear Setup for Success: Learn how to properly set up your gear, including holsters, magazines, and accessories, for optimal performance.
- Shooting Fundamentals: Improving your stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control.
- Defensive Marksmanship: Learning to shoot with precision and focus under pressure.
- Proper Ready Positions: Learn how to shoot from various ready positions that allow you to be prepared to engage threats quickly and safely, and the importance of a proper stance when positioning your firearm.
- Drawing the Pistol: Learn the mechanics of the efficient draw stroke and presentation for quick, effective engagement.
- Recoil Management: Learn to control the recoil of your pistol through proper structure rather than relying on strength, enabling more consistent follow-up shots while maintaining accuracy defensive accuracy.
- Reloading Techniques: Introduction to the fundamentals of reloading your handgun efficiently and safely, including emergency and speed reloads for when time is critical.
- Live Fire Malfunction Clearing: Learning how to clear malfunctions during live fire drills.

Defensive Pistol II takes the foundational skills learned in Defensive Pistol I and builds on them with more advanced techniques. This course emphasizes dynamic shooting drills and real-world defensive scenarios, helping you refine your skills to perform under stress.
Topics covered in this class include:
- Fundamental Refresher: Revisit and refine core shooting fundamentals to ensure consistent accuracy.
- Improving Draw Efficiency: Enhance your draw speed by focusing on economy of motion, reducing unnecessary movement for faster, more fluid presentations.
- Improving Recoil Management: Apply effective recoil management techniques to achieve a proper balance of speed and precision when engaging targets of varying distances and sizes.
- Utilizing Both Sighted and Unsighted Methods of Aiming: Learn how to choose between sighted and unsighted aiming methods based on context, incorporating gross sight picture, flash sight picture, and precise sight picture techniques for accurate, efficient shooting in different defensive situations.
- Reloading Techniques: Build on emergency reloads from Defensive Pistol I, learn how to incorporate movement to cover, and introduce tactical reloads for maintaining readiness.
- Dominant/Non-Dominant Hand Shooting: Develop the skill to shoot with both your dominant and non-dominant hand. This will prepare you for situations where you may need to shoot with one hand due to injury or other circumstances.
- Footwork: Practice footwork for pivoting, moving, and shooting to help you engage targets while staying mobile.
- Engage Multiple Targets: Practice engaging and transitioning between multiple targets quickly and efficiently.
- Intro to Performance Metrics: Use metrics to track and improve your shooting skills

Defensive Pistol III: Mastering Defensive Shooting
Defensive Pistol III takes your training to the highest level by immersing you in complex, real-world scenarios where critical decision-making and quick reflexes are essential. This advanced course will challenge you with shooting under low-light conditions, handling physical stress, and engaging threats at varying distances. You will perfect your ability to respond swiftly and accurately while maintaining mental clarity under pressure.
Topics covered in this class include:
- Advanced Target Engagement: Engage targets at varying distances and in multiple positions to build your ability to respond effectively under pressure.
- Low-Light Shooting: Learn how to safely and accurately shoot in low-light or no-light conditions, an essential skill for real-world self-defense (availability determined by range).
- Stress Inoculation: Practice shooting while under simulated stress to in order to be able to apply skills in an adrenaline-filled defensive incident.
- Tactical Decision Making: Improve on your ability to make critical decisions under stress, including when to shoot, how to move, and when to seek cover, improving your ability to respond effectively in defensive scenarios.
- Advanced Malfunction Clearing: Refine your skills in clearing more complex firearm malfunctions quickly and effectively.
- Multiple Threat Engagement: Practice dealing with multiple threats, transitioning quickly between targets, and improving your speed and accuracy.
- Defensive Movement and Cover: Enhance your skills in shooting while moving, using cover effectively, and engaging threats from different positions for optimal defense.
